Tip from Nata - Východná Vysoká

The tourist season is in full swing and therefore we will move to the High Tatras to one of the 7 freely accessible peaks. Kriváň, Predné Solisko, Slavkovský štít, Rysy, Kôprovský štít, Jahňací štít. And today we will walk together to the seventh, Východná Vysoká with an altitude of more than 2400 meters.

We change the Low Tatras to the High Tatras. And from the Ostredok hotel we will move to Tatranská Polianka. The journey will take us less than an hour. Since the High Tatras are full of tourists, it can be more difficult to park, but it is not impossible. We park the car by the road and can go.

From the signpost in Tatranská Polianka, we stick to the green sign and walk along the asphalt towards the Silesian House. After about an hour, we arrive at the Crossroads at Velicky most and descend from the asphalt to a forest path. We continue through the beautiful Tatra nature along the stream, passing wooden bridges, stony paths, and after about another hour we arrive at Velická Poľana and then the Silesian House.

We stop for a short snack near Velicky pleso. Following the green sign, we continue towards Východná Vysoká. We move along the stony path, pass through the Eternal Rain around the Velické waterfall. Eternal rain is a rock formation over which water continuously flows, creating the impression of drizzle. Which is a nice refreshment during the summer months.

Along the way, we pass several slopes full of snow, which I will return to later, because they can be very treacherous even in summer. And we continue on past the Long Ball. And we stick to the green sign all the way to the top of Vychodná Vysoka. The whole journey to the top, even with breaks, took us less than 5 hours. But admit that these views are worth it.

The way back follows the same route. But we find that it is better to climb up after the summer snow than to slide down, because one really slides down. Literally. Like a sack of potatoes. And he prays that he won't fall off the sidewalk and have to wait for someone to call a red helicopter to pick him up. So never underestimate the snow! Not even the summer one. Don't waste your work as a mountain rescuer. For this time, in addition to lessons, I am also taking away frostbite from the summer hike. It was quite unexpected…

On the way back, we stop at Sliezská dom for coffee, look for the last remnants of energy in ourselves, and with the coming sunset, we move back to Tatranská Polianka to the car.

Length: 21 km

Total time including breaks: 9 hours, 30 minutes

Climbed meters: 1382 m

Difficulty: it would be a shame to deprive yourself of this experience just because you don't spend 90% of your free time in the mountains, but you definitely need fitness for this ascent. Fitness, determination, a lot of food, water, patience, self-denial and inner strength... and bad taste. Don't forget the snacks! 🙂
